UPDATE In Tuesday’s issue of Inside Towers, we reported on a tower climber fatality in Arlington Heights, WA. The tower tech has been identified by authorities as Michael Vasquez, 24, of Las Vegas. On Saturday afternoon, Vasquez fell about 140 feet while working on a Crown Castle tower in the 11000 block of 228th Street NE, according to HeraldNet. A Marine Corp veteran, he was employed by Broken Arrow Communications, having been hired by the company in June of this year.
The medical examiner’s office said Vasquez died from blunt-force injuries, and his death was classified as an accident. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a further investigation of the incident. Crown Castle reported that work has been suspended at the site.
Crown Castle issued the following statement on Tuesday: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of a member of the tower community and our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Arlington Heights community.” Contributions to help the Vasquez family can be sent to the Tower Family Foundation.
