UPDATE The cell tower battle in the Massachusetts town of Mashpee, reported by Inside Towers has seen lawsuits in Barnstable Superior Court against the Mashpee Zoning Board of Appeals and Blue Sky Towers. The drama has continued, according to the Mashpee Enterprise, with some residents seeking the recusal of some members of the Mashpee Planning Board due to conflict of interest.
Opponents claim that Joseph Callahan is a realtor who would benefit from placing the proposed cell tower in Mashpee since he has property in neighboring New Seabury.
As Mashpee Fire Rescue’s deputy chief, John Phelan also has a personal reason to favor tower construction, argue objectors. In response, Phelan said that he had already contacted the State Ethics Commission and was advised that his participation did not represent a conflict of interest. Residents in favor of the tower said the poor reception creates a public safety crisis.
