Wednesday night was the American Heart Association’s (AHA) CycleNation event in Boca Raton. The event had more than 25 teams competing against each other in a stationary cycling showdown with Tom Hunt, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, of SBA as the event Chairperson.
“Due to the generosity of the towerco companies, the event raised over $150,000 for this extremely worthy cause,” Lynne Hopkins, SBA’s Director of Corporate Communications told Inside Towers.
For you non-spinners, the metric that is measured is “power points.” Power points are generated by an algorithm CycleBar uses that takes into consideration watts generated and RPM of the riders. The important thing is which towerco generated the most power points – that was the Phoenix Tower team – coming in second overall with all team participants.
Because SBA was the Presenting Sponsor of the event, it had multiple teams entered but SBA “Team Ciarfella,” led by EVP Operations Mark Ciarfella, was the leading team for fundraising, for the entire event.
Top Companies included:
- SBA Communications $51,157 (first overall)
- Phoenix Tower International $13,115
- Vertical Bridge Holdings $7,222
- Crown Castle $5,050
In addition to being the #1 towerco team in power points, the AHA awarded Phoenix Tower the Most Team Spirit award.
“Philanthropy is a key focus of SBA Communications, and our organization and employees strive to ‘Change Lives’ through the SBA Cares philanthropic program and we were so pleased to be the Presenting Sponsor for such a great event that raised money for such a worthy cause,” Hopkins said.
