Vice President Receives NG911 Awareness Award

Washington, D.C. (February 28, 2017) – Dominic Villecco, Vice President of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Public Safety Committee for the New Jersey Wireless Association  (NJWA) received the NG9-1-1 Institute’s NG911 Awareness award for 2017.

The award recognizes the substantial progress in raising awareness for unjust 911 fee diversion in the State of New Jersey. The fee diversion uses funds raised for 911 telephone bill surcharges to spend on non-911 expenses, contrary to the expectations outlined in the Net911 Act passed by Congress in 2008. The award exemplifies NJWA as a national leader on this critical public safety issue.

“We are excited that Dominic has received such a great award and nationwide recognition on behalf of our organization,” said Ivanoff. “This issue is too important for the residents of our great state to ignore.”

Some of the organization’s accomplishments being recognized include interviews on New Jersey television news programs, newspaper and trade press interviews, meetings with key members of the New Jersey Legislature and meetings with several FCC Commissioners.  Additionally, NJWA has filed comments in the FCC annual proceeding on 911 fees under the Net911 Act, in which they will file again in a few weeks’ time.

Mr. Villecco received his award during NG9-1-1 Institute’s 14th Annual 911 Honor Awards reception in the foyer of the Rayburn Office Building on February 28, accompanied by Mr. Ivanoff and Jonathan Adelstein, president of the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA).
